高校生の時、自分で髪切って失敗した事があった。
次の日の放課後、Ｙに人気のない場所に呼び出され
ものすごく深刻な表情で、吐き捨てるように「帽子みたい」と言われた。

Ｙはヘアメイクが結構上手な子だったので、恥ずかしさで頭に血が上り
「わかってるよ！でも少し我慢してれば何とかなってくるでしょ？
一生このままってわけじゃないし、何もそんな事言わなくてもいいじゃん！」
と言うと、Ｙが突然泣き出した。しまった、言い過ぎた！と思い、慌てて
「どうにもならなくなったら、あんたの手も借りたい…」と言うと
Ｙは泣きながら「わかった。もうあんな事言わない。ごめんね」と。

つい先日、Ｙと飲みに行ったら彼女がその話をしたので、色々思い出した。
「あの時はあの勢いに救われたよ。まったくいい友達だ、あんたは」
と、照れたようにＹは言ったが、私は顔がひきつった。

「帽子みたい」じゃなくて、「もう死にたい」だったのか…

その後、何度も友情に乾杯してから真実を打ち明けた。
私も衝撃的だったけど、Ｙはもっと衝撃的だったと思う。
